We sat down with our Lead designer Danielle Gellatly to find out more about her life and work.

Who is your role model?

I don’t have a role model per se, but I have been very fortunate to have had some incredible mentors over the years. My work ethic and dedication were recognized alongside my artistic abilities early on in my career …paving the way for me in the fashion industry. In my personal life, my parents instilled in me an independent spirit which propelled me to try things I would have never dared to do.

What advice would you give to anyone who wants to be a designer?

My best advice is first to keep your nose to the grindstone. Hard work and a true passion for what you do will carry you, wherever you wish to be. I owe my success in this industry to a commitment to myself to never settle, and to always give my best to anything I work on. Love what you do and the rest will come!

As a working mom how do you achieve your work and life balance?

It definitely isn’t easy but with the great support system that I have around me, it is absolutely possible. I believe it is achievable if you are willing to be flexible, and not worry too much about the small stuff. A work/life balance for me is being passionate about my job, effective in my work but always present for my family. I have been blessed by working with an organization that has been very understanding over the years, which has certainly helped me craft a balanced life, allowing me the best of both worlds.
